PBS’s new online news program, the.News, is a source of current events. Each video story has an annotated transcript and is supported by lesson plans with content-based standards, discussion questions, student activities, vocabulary, and primary references. It is a non-commercial, multi-platform tool designed to help teens acquire the knowledge and skills to become better citizens. There are three “thought starter” questions for each video. The videos are also open-captioned for hearing-impaired and ESL learners. Students can submit their own electronic news stories to the student video competition, YOU.report, to win prizes and a chance to have their work included on the.News Web site. The deadline is March 31, 2009. Go to the following link for further information, http://www.pbs.org/newshour/thenews/youreport/
