BookFLIX Is Now Available, K-3

Heartland just purchased the BookFLIX online database from Scholastic, http://bkflix.grolier.com. There are links on BookFLIX to educator and promotional resources.

BookFLIX will engage primary students and reinforce core reading skills. It pairs fiction with nonfiction books, and classic Weston Woods videos to reinforce reading skills and develop essential real-world knowledge and understanding. Features include read-along narrated text, definitions of key vocabulary words, and educational games and activities. Parents may also use it at home with their early readers. In past years, Heartland supported reading with a big book purchase. BookFLIX takes that nonfiction big book concept and integrates it with fiction and video to enhance the reading experience for beginning readers and ESL students.
BookFLIX was ranked by School Library Journal as one of the 10 Best Digital Resources in 2008. It was the 2008 CODiE Award Winner for the Best Reading/English Instructional Solution, and the 2008 winner of The Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award for Reading and Language Instruction Technology.
