Readability is a simple tool that makes reading on the Web more enjoyable by removing the clutter around what is being read. It strips out advertisements, images and other Web page extraneous information and leaves just the text of the article allowing students to focus on reading. It works well with most sites, but in some cases it is best to display the print version of a page (a print view option is available on most news and magazine web sites) before using the tool. To use Readability, first visit the Readability Web site, follow the simple instructions for configuring your Readability view, and then save the bookmarklet to your browser bookmarks. The next time you ask students to visit a long article that you would like them to read in text view, just click the bookmarklet and Readability will load the text only view.
